SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY

Melbourne Street Art: Bandit to Blue-eyed Boy will be marketed through the social media platforms Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook

With 1.7 billion users, Facebook is the world’s largest social media site and a natural choice as a social media platform. There is also the attraction of Facebook for this project which is its support of the presentation of both visual and written content. The issues that will be explored, for example, gentrification, brandalism, depoliticisation and heritage, require explanation which may be not be able to be communicated solely in a visual form.

Instagram

As the project is also a showcase of Melbourne street art, Instagram is the perfect choice to engage the potential audience with photography of the subject itself. Part of the target audience is people solely with an interest in Melbourne street art and it is important not to alienate them by only posting material related to the sociological aspects we are investigating.

Posts

The overwhelming majority of literature indicates consistency is key when it comes to social media posting. Regular posting is a factor in online search results and consistency also builds credibility, which in turn builds reputation. Additionally the posts made should be interesting, informative and relevant.

In order to keep the audience engaged, a detailed Facebook post will be made twice a week, which may include:

  • news articles about the themes being explored such as gentrification, brandalism, depoliticisation, heritage and protection

  • Interview clips with the public, street artists and local council

  • Relevant videos and photos of street art in Melbourne

  • Any events promoting street art

A range of Melbourne’s street art photography will be posted on Instagram every 2-3 days. Hashtags will be used to identify keywords and facilitate searches.

Website

The final product, the digital story, will be hosted on the Digi Dames website which will also include links to the social media platforms.
